HEALTHY BANANA CAKE

So Nugget turned two last Friday. When did this happen? (Last Friday, I know)
I'm old and I start being the kind of adult I hated when I was younger. Always talking about how fast something went by and the worst, I always hug and squeeze and try to get a kiss from him. Poor Nugget. I know how awful that is. Not trying to change anytime soon though.

My darling sister then asked me to bake a cake with no sugar. She acutally said that. And then I panicked. What cake doesn't contain sugar? I mean, I can't just subsitute sugar for honey. And then I remembered that some people like to make banana bread instead of banana cake. And then smear a whole jug of Nutella right on top of it. Nice try.

I used this recipe from BBC. Mainly because the site doesn't look hideous unlike other blogs. I doubled the recipe because I knew my fantastic cake needs six fantastic layers.

And then I remembered that no banana cake tastes good without cream cheese frosting. Since cream cheese frosting consists mainly of .. ummm sugar, I knew that my sister and 12 other moms would try to kill me if I actually went for that. So I went for elana's pantry's cream cheese frosting
Needless to say, it was the most amazing shit I ever tasted. And there's no butter nor any sugar in it! Can you believe it? I couldn't.

VOLLPENSION

So about a hundred days ago my mommy and I had the pleasure of baking some goodies with the grannies and grandpas of the Vollpension. Our lovely granny brought her cooking book that her mother wrote. I couldn't read a single word and kept giggling at the Dekagramms. We also managed to burn our first batch of Husarenkrapfen. (I didn't know what that was either.)
It was so much fun though. My momma was in seventh heaven and I was just in awe.
Silly me should have published this post a month ago, the Vollpension just had its last day.
Booo.
But there's always next year! And we should all go there together because
1) the Vollpension is a lovely place to spend your I'm-a-freelancer-friday at
2) the Vollpension helps retired grannies and grandpas earn a little extra money
3) me and my full cake belly can roll home right down the hill.
Thanks again to the lovely Dani and Nina. Imma just call you DANINA from now on.

BAKING ATELIER

Never was I more excited to be getting up at 8am on a Saturday.
I was lucky to attend the first Baking Atelier at the Palais Sans Souci.
Organized by the two lovely ladies of the Coolinary Society.
We were welcomed with hugs and breakfast, giggled a lot and then went on to roll out some dough with Tante Fanny.
In the afternoon and 50% into my phone's battery life we went on with the sessions.
The results? Tons of apfelstrudel, cupcakes, decorated cakes and christmas cookies.
I had to focus so hard to get onto the right bus that I left the camera at home.
What pure excitement does to people, crazy.

Thanks Nina and Dani for this wonderful day and sorry reader, I did not mean to make you jealous.

CHEESECAKE

It was my Mama's birthday on Sunday.
I also have a pretty huge crush on Paul Bokowski. If I was a guy I'd be into guys and do everything Paul does. Bake and have a good-looking kitchen.
(He also writes books!)
Paul is completely right when he says 'put corse sea salt in everything'. Maybe those were not his exact words but mine.
So for Mama (or more like for me and the guy) I made his wonderful cheesecake
I love that he uses zwieback (that's a word!) besides cookies for the crust.
AND COARSE SEA SALT.
My Mama only deserves the best.
